Gentlemen Dispute

“Listen here ol’ chap, I don’t agree with the way you discuss current events. How about we step outside and settle this like gentlemen. I’ll try to knock down your top hat and you do your best in the hopes of accomplishing the same thing”. “Yes, by all means, let’s.”
That might be the trash talking which leads to two British (I would assume so) gentlemen exiting the Tavern and resolving their issues in the street. This is Gentlemen Dispute, an arcade fighting game that’s all about brawling with manners.

Fighting while inebriated has never been so classy

In Gentlemen Dispute the most violent thing you can do is to knock down your opponent’s hat. Which is also your only goal in the entire game. Being a fighting arcader, the dispute is settled after one of the two players manages to ‘dehat’ the opponent five times.
After that, it’s back to the tavern, with no blood spilled, just a little dust on the hats and a bit of a bruised ego for the one who succeeds in not winning the civilised brawl.

A wonderfully looking game with simple and excellently thought out fighting mechanics

Gameplay for Gentlemen Dispute is simplified to the point where you can play this while drunk and still have a blast. Both the characters walkabout like they’ve had more than enough to drink so they wobble with every step, holding a hand up in a manner which would suggest that they have a very good point to make.
Fighting is done by positioning your character and jumping hat first into the opponent. Your attacks will take place in the direction in which the hat is pointing and until you’ll get the hang of it, it’s totally hilarious. After you get how things work, it becomes hilarious and challenging.

It’s simple and simply great

On a closing note, Gentlemen Dispute is quite simply a fantastic little fighting game. It’s well polished, animations are a delight and combat is very entertaining. If it had a tea cup throwing attack, this would be the ultimate British Brawler...
