Description

Simple video game ideas can enjoy mainstream success if the developers make them easily accessible and addictive enough, but not every new concept is worthy of attention. There are many examples of creative people that managed to make their names known to the world with brilliant video games, but there are even more of them that didn’t make it.

Avoid obstacles and destroy your enemies

Coloured World is an arcade game in which your goal is simple: destroy the enemies and make it to exit in one piece. However, you are but a colored square in the game, which means that you don’t have too many powers or abilities at your disposal. Instead, your only useful skill is a forward dash, which comes in handy when you need to dodge traps or shove enemies into spikes.
As the name clearly mentions, color is a big part of the game, since even your character changes colors once every few seconds. Not only that, but you also leave a trail behind, almost like a crayon on paper. These trails remain on the screen indefinitely, even after you die and reset the level. Hence, the whole thing can look pretty disorienting after you fail a few times.

Push your enemies into spikes

Enemies are there to annoy you, but they can also kill you instantly if they touch you. To avoid that, you have to dash into them, which causes them to be knocked back. Obviously, this can be used to shove them into spikes and various other traps. On the other hand, they can also run into the said traps by themselves if you lure them, so they are definitely not smart.
The levels get more and more difficult as you manage to pass them, which includes more traps, faster obstacles and more enemies. After a while, the color trains can become rather annoying, because it gets tough to make out what’s happening on the screen. Even if the graphics are as basic as they can get, the colorful cacophony that results after a few deaths can be very harmful.

An addictive recipe for arcade lovers

In the end, Coloured World certainly has its fair share of problems, but it’s actually a very engaging game. Hence, if you are looking for something challenging and original at the same time, this could certainly occupy a bit of your time.
