Description
Extreme rides can be either very fun or very scary, depending on what kind of person you are. Adrenaline junkies get a kick even out of the most soliciting rides, includes the ones that are a few G’s away from causing them to pass out. However, they're easier to deal with if you remember that the machinery must be in tip-top shape in order to be open to the public, so it’s not quite as stressful.
Nausea and adrenaline in the comfort of your own home
Cyberspace is a virtual reality experience designed for Oculus Rift headsets, in which you get the opportunity to enjoy quite the disorienting ride without even leaving your house. While there’s not a lot of content to keep you entertained, and the graphics are pretty basic as well, this is still a quintessential virtual reality experience, at least to show your friends what the technology is able to achieve.
The main reason this simulator is so effective is that the in-game character is seated, just as you are at home. This amplifies the illusion a great deal, a lot more than when you are walking around in some VR shooter while you rest comfortably in a soft chair. On the other hand, it’s also a lot more likely that you’ll get motion sickness, especially if you are not seasoned.
Catapult from the ride whenever you wish
The other interesting thing you can do in the game is eject from your seat at any given moment, in order to see what it would be like if the seat belts suddenly gave out. It can be quite the experience under decent circumstances, but it can also be very disorienting and difficult to follow, because your character’s body rotates through the air and the point of view changes rapidly.
As mentioned before, the graphics are nothing to stand in awe of, but that only means that you can enjoy the game on almost any computer, as long as it can render it properly. Latency and frame drops would be very awkward, on the other hand, since the last thing you need on a ride like this is even more nausea.
The perfect way to see whether extreme rides are for you or not
When it’s all said and done, Cyberspace is not really a game, since it lacks the interactive element almost entirely. However, it’s a great way to put your Oculus Rift HMD to work, especially if you want to pump your veins full of adrenaline.
