Description
Virtual Reality seems to be the next step in video games, although this is the second attempt for the gimmick to stick, after a failed one two or three decades ago. However, technology is powerful enough today to make the experience a lot more engaging and realistic, which is what the previous VR incarnation lacked.
Navigate two worlds at once
The Future Of Gaming is a 2D platformer that looks quite simple when you start it up and move around a bit, but it quickly becomes a waking nightmare only a few minutes later. The gameplay is not complex per se, but it is very demanding, as well as confusing at times. In short, you have to navigate through a VR environment while also avoiding obstacles in real life, or at least in the main character’s real life.
As you might suspect, you do not need a VR set in order to enjoy the game, because the whole point is that it would be annoying. Since the in-game character needs to move around his house to make progress in virtual reality, things like couches and ovens become invisible obstacles in VR. You can remove the device for a few seconds to see where you’re going, but then you won’t be able to see what happens in the VR game.
Watch out for mines and ceiling fans
The obstacles you have to avoid vary depending on the world they exist in. Hence, while the VR game is full of mines and various other science fiction traps, you also have to watch out for ovens and ceiling fans in the real world. Movement is also important, because you won’t be able to advance in any of the two worlds if your character is stuck in a wall or behind a couch.
Each jump and step must be calculated, since it’s not ideal if the two worlds desynchronize. The levels can get confusing because of this, especially when some jumps appear to be impossible at first. With enough patience and practice, on the other hand, you can overcome every annoyance and get to the end of each stage in one piece.
Simple graphics and accurate controls
In the end, The Future Of Gaming is certainly a very intriguing concept, although it needs some polish in order to become marketable. As long as the gameplay remains just as fun and challenging, however, people are bound to be interested.
