Description
Action games are designed to keep you on edge and challenge your ability to react quickly to all kinds of dangers, while also exploring the game world and paying attention to the story. It’s not an easy task, but as long as the gameplay is smooth and your skills are challenged on a regular basis, it should be easy to ignore other faults and just enjoy yourself for a few hours.
A doomed universe needs a savior
A Journey To Eternity is an action-platformer in which your goal is to kill enemies and make your way across a variety of levels, while also keeping in mind the fact that you have to save the universe. The game may not feature any kind of groundbreaking gameplay mechanics, but it’s pretty polished in almost every regard, which makes it a great distraction for platformer fans everywhere.
The story puts you in the role of a nameless human who’s been created by the gods with a single purpose: to destroy the universe. While that may sound like something a villain might do, it’s actually imperative that the universe is destroyed, because its cyclic nature is what keeps everything rolling. However, this cycle is stuck and full of monsters, which is why it needs a forced reboot.
Battle enemies and navigate tough levels
Most of your time is spent trying to dodge or attack various monsters, all of which have tricky attack patterns that require concentration and good coordination in order to avoid. In fact, the first hour or so is all about learning how to survive, although new enemies constantly make an appearance. Thankfully, at least there are many checkpoints you can use to save your progress and avoid desperation.
As for everything else, the only other thing worthy of mention is that the levels are not linear, which means that you are free to explore them and try to find secrets or treasure. Even this part is quite challenging, because there are all sorts of traps you need to bypass in order to do that. On the other hand, it might be worth the effort if you make it to the end.
An intriguing adventure and challenging gameplay
All in all, A Journey To Eternity is clearly not for everyone, but it does have substance, which is enough to keep you playing in spite of the high difficulty level. Moreover, the non-linear levels are a blast to explore and navigate.
