Description
The desert is not the kind of place you go to in order to have a bit of fun, especially those like Sahara, where sand dunes cover everything and it’s difficult to navigate by sight alone. On the other hand, the open space would be a great place to toy around with some kind of vehicle, given the fact that there are not many obstacles to watch out for.
Drive a buggy as fast as you wish
Buggy Rider Unlimited is a basic driving game in which you are given the keys to a buggy and the freedom to explore a large map. Unfortunately, there’s not a lot to do on the map, in spite of how big it appears to be. Except for a couple of rocks, the occasional palm tree and a few dunes, everything is just an orange expanse of nothingness that bores you in a matter of minutes.
The buggy is nothing special either, given the fact that all it can do is accelerate, brake and steer. You can jump over the dunes, hit the rocks and do everything you want to it without damaging it, so it obviously gets repetitive and pointless after a while. It would be nice to at least be able to choose from multiple vehicles, but sadly that is not the case.
Simple graphics and annoying special effects
Thankfully, at least it’s fairly easy to control the car, given the fact that this is obviously not a simulator. The buggy is capable of reaching unlimited speeds as long as you avoid the obstacles, although you can still steer without too much hassle even at 250 miles per hour. This wouldn’t be too much of a problem if you had something to do in the meantime, but that is not the case.
The graphics are nothing to write home about either, even if they are not actually ugly. Again, the main complaint is that there’s nothing to see, because the textures and the engine itself appear to be quite decent. In addition, you can fall off the map if you go too far, and the motion blur looks very odd, not to mention the fact that it occupies a large portion of the screen for no good reason.
Enough content to last you for a few minutes
When it’s all said and done, Buggy Rider Unlimited appears to be more of an unfinished side project than an actual game, due to its serious lack of content. However, it could certainly be improved, at least if the developers are willing to put more effort into it.
