Description
There are a few games out there that will probably never fade out of the public’s collective memory, no matter how many years pass by. Tetris is a good example of this, but there are many other that may inspire future generations. On the other hand, it’s not enough to do the same thing over and over again, since gamers crave innovation.
A new way to enjoy the classic game of Snake
Cubic Snake II is about as simple as the name implies, which means that you get exactly what you expect: a three-dimensional Snake game. The main idea is that the action takes place on a cube instead of a plane, which makes it a tad more difficult to orientate yourself and remember where the rest of your body is. On the other hand, nothing else has changed, which is a bit of a bummer.
Thus, your goal is to collect food and grow in length with each bit you eat. There doesn’t seem to be a limit to how much you can grow, but it becomes quite tough to survive after a while. The cube rotates whenever you reach an edge and go on a different face, which means that your only concern is the movement, while the game takes care of everything else.
Simple graphics and even simpler controls
There are two different modes to choose from, although they are not very different from each other. One is the classic mode that allows you to keep playing for as long as you can survive, while the other is a time attack mode in which you have to score as many points as you can in two minutes. It must also be mentioned that there are solid block in every corner, and that you immediately die if you happen to touch them.
Not just that, but you also die if you happen to eat yourself, as it is customary for every Snake game out there. On the other hand, the very simple graphics can be a bit of a bummer after a while, especially since you are basically looking at empty polygons with no textures. Even so, there’s plenty of time for the developers to add better graphics, because the gameplay is much more important.
A neat idea that deserves your attention
When it’s all said and done, Cubic Snake II can certainly keep you busy for a while, just like the classic version of the game did. However, it needs more work before it can be classified as a finished product.
