Description
Christmas is a pretty stressful period even when everything is going well, so you can only imagine what happens when something goes wrong. As legend has it, Santa supposedly delivers all the gifts in one night, which means that he doesn’t really leave himself any room for errors. Thus, it would be a pretty big catastrophe for something to happen to the toys he’s supposed to deliver.
Catch the evil Easter bunny before it’s too late
Christmas Quest is a 2D platformer with simple gameplay mechanics in which you have to help poor Santa recover his presents in time for Christmas Eve. Although there’s nothing special about the game when it comes to gameplay or graphics, the overall experience is pretty engaging, at least if you enjoy simple platforming that doesn’t force you to perform extraordinary feats of strength.
The whole adventure starts when Santa prepares for his special night by visiting his famous factory, only to discover that every toy is gone and he is unable to do his duty. As it turns out, the Easter bunny is the one responsible for all this, mainly because he was jealous of Santa for how popular he was. The mission is to retrieve the toys and maybe have a talk with the bunny about self-esteem.
Retro graphics and simple controls
As mentioned before, the gameplay is as simple as it gets, since all you have to do is jump over obstacles, deal with patrolling enemies and sometimes activate levers and buttons in order to make your way forward. Synchronization is important in certain cases, because you have to move in such a way as to avoid timed traps that prevent you from staying still for too long.
The graphics are nothing to write home about, which is not a very big problem when you consider the target audience. Granted, at least the environments are colorful and the characters are pretty amusing, so the lack of HD resolutions might slip by unnoticed. The soundtrack is jolly as well, but you shouldn’t expect anything memorable in this regard either.
A great adventure for cold winter days
In the end, Christmas Quest is a very mundane game with nothing out of the ordinary in any regard, but the overall product is quite enjoyable. Thus, it’s easy to get lost for a few minutes and enjoy the Christmas spirit.
