Description
Nonogram games are usually designed to be both fun and challenging at the same time, since they are still considered puzzle games, after all. It’s important for interface and the mechanics to be as refined as possible, because there’s nothing more frustrating than not being able to solve puzzles because of faulty mechanics or an annoying interface that gets in your way.
Choose the desired puzzle size and layout
JCross Nonograms is a basic puzzle game that allows you to tackle hundreds of nonogram puzzles and put your skills to the test. It’s a bit too basic in some regards, on the other hand, given the fact that it lacks a few important functions and it can be fairly disorienting sometimes. Even so, you can still have a good time if you are patient enough.
To begin with, the game provides you with a few possible size options to choose from, depending on how big you want the grid to be. Ranging from very small to huge, there’s something for every type of player, regardless of your experience with the genre. You can also choose the layout of the puzzles, and there are hundreds of different designs to tackle.
Lackluster interface and mechanics
It’s not difficult to understand what needs to be done, given the fact that your job is to fill the correct cells and obtain the final design. However, it would appear that the game does not tell you when you are wrong, so you can easily fill the whole grid the wrong way and not notice until it’s too late. There are no penalties either, and you have to manually switch between marking cells as filled or empty.
It would be a lot easier to just use the other mouse button to cross off the useless cells, and it would also be nice to have some sort of warning system to let you know that you are wrong. You can obviously use the reverse function or the eraser to make adjustments, but that’s only if you notice your mistakes.
A great distraction for puzzle lovers and plenty of content
All things considered, JCross Nonograms has a few flaws when it comes to the interface and the mechanics, but these can be fixed with a few updates. Other than that, there’s more than enough content to keep you busy for weeks.
