Cats are pretty active creatures most of the time, except when they decide to take day-long naps and do nothing but sit and relax. However, other times they have an excess of energy that needs to be spent, which is when they usually play with anything they happen to come across. Their energy tends to run out once they get older, although balls of yarn never cease to get a rise out of them.

Explore simple 2D levels and find the exit

Open Your Eyes is a casual 2D platformer in which you play the role of a cat trying to find its ball of wool. However, it’s also worth mentioning that the cat in question is quite old, which is why it can slip in and out of some sort of coma in order to remember things from its youth. Other than that, the game is a straightforward platformer with very few original components.
The story is pretty vague, but it would appear that you have to trace your favorite wool ball by remembering places and events from the past. There are no other characters and no clear plotline to follow, so it’s quite clear that the story is not a major component. On the other hand, the gameplay is way too simple as well, which makes the experience feel a tad cheap and unfinished.

Switch between past and present

As mentioned before, the cat can remember things by closing its eyes and imagining the world as it used to be a few years ago. Hence, certain obstacles appear or disappear when you make the transition, although it’s always obvious what you need to do, so any kind of challenge is out of the question. On the other hand, some sections require quick reflexes, so at least there’s that.
As far as the graphics are concerned, they are colorful and smooth, but also extremely repetitive. Nothing really changes in the background, which makes it difficult to enjoy the atmosphere and immerse yourself in the atmosphere. Granted, at least the controls are responsive and accurate, even if the collision system is pretty flawed most of the time.

An enjoyable distraction for when you have five minutes to spare

When it’s all said and done, Open Your Eyes is not much of a memorable game, but it can take the edge off when you want to see kittens and bright colors. However, there far better alternatives out there, so it’s highly unlikely that this will prove to be your only choice.
