Description
Fighting is always a good solution in video games, even if real life is not that simple and straightforward most of the time. Granted, the repercussions are not as severe in video games anyway, given the fact that the worst thing that can happen is a quickload to your previous save in case things do not go according to plan or you take on someone too strong for you.
Take revenge on an entire village of people
Valley Of Bones is a top-down adventure game that puts you in the role of an exiled man who seeks revenge on the people who forced him to go out in the woods and starve. The gameplay mechanics are very simple and repetitive, not to mention the fact that everything is based on combat, even if the fights themselves are boring. Thus, the game gets on your nerves in a matter of minutes.
There’s a weak story that tries to keep everything glued together throughout the experience, but it’s very poorly written and it doesn’t make too much sense. Hence, the main in character is visited by a shady figure that urges him to start killing and return to the village in order to murder everyone. The few cutscenes that feature dialog are not in any way exciting or intense, so don’t expect too much in this regard.
Annoying movement and simple combat
The map is very small and uninteresting, given the fact that it features only a handful of trees and the occasional rock. It takes a minute or so to walk from one end to the other, so exploration is out of the picture. The combat is annoying as well, since all you have to do is click on the enemy and wait until his health bar is empty. There are no special abilities or intricate battle tactics involved, which is not good news in an action-adventure title.
Lastly, the missions are repetitive too, given the fact that all you have to do is walk to one place and kill the enemies that pop in front of you. The graphics are not bad from a technical point of view, but the poor level design is what hurts the most, because there’s truly nothing to see along the way. You also have to endure the repetitive music while you are at it, but at least that can be turned off.
A repetitive adventure with boring battles
Even if this is clearly an indie production with limited resources, Valley Of Bones could have been a lot more fun if the developers tried harder in terms of combat complexity and level design. Furthermore, the story is weak and uninteresting as well.
