Description
Fast-paced action games can be the perfect cure for boring afternoons, especially if you enjoy putting your reflexes the test. Granted, the mechanics must be functional and responsive, otherwise the frustration prevents you from having any fun. It’s not easy to create a compelling experience, on the other hand, especially when the gameplay has to keep you busy for hours on end.
Help the woodsman fight against monsters
Woodsman Strikes Back is a simple arcade game in which you have to pass levels by shooting every enemy that pops up on the screen and collect the gold coins they drop. There’s not much more to it than that, but the monsters get stronger later on, which really puts your reflexes and patience to the test. On top of that, you can also use the coins to purchase upgrades to help you along.
Each level has a specific length, and the goal is to make it to the end alive. You have to kill all the enemies that appear, because letting them go or avoiding them is not an option, since you lose health if they make it to the other side of the screen. This can be rather annoying at first, mainly because you move very slowly, which makes it difficult to target every monster.
Purchase upgrades to improve your chances
As mentioned before, there are gold coins spread all over the levels, which can be picked up and collected until you have enough to purchase the desired upgrades. These ranged from better weapons to more hit points, faster movement speed, as well as cosmetic items that only look nice but don’t have any actual use.
Lastly, the graphics are as basic as they can get as well, but not necessarily ugly, The biggest problem is the fact that the levels look the same in regards to backgrounds, so they can get boring pretty fast. However, the monsters and the simple special effects look fairly nice for a casual game. It’s quite obvious that the game was designed for mobile devices and touchscreens, on the other hand, which can make the interface and the controls annoying with a mouse.
Brighten your day for a few minutes
In the end, Woodsman Strikes Back is the kind of game that gets boring after a few minutes, but it’s challenging enough to change your mood at the right moment. Hence, it’s definitely a neat way to practice your reflexes.
