Description
Most adventures are imagined to be as exciting as possible, because there’s always danger lurking around the corner and all sorts of challenges for the heroes involved to overcome. The odds are always stacked against the protagonists, but it rarely happens that they don’t find a workaround to every impediment.
A brave elephant against a tribe of Ewoks
Chucky And Tribe Ewok is a simple 2D platformer in which you have to help an elephant by the name of Chucky overcome a variety of obstacles in his journey to uncover the mystery behind a newly-discovered tribe of Ewoks. It’s unclear how all of these concepts and Star Wars references are part of the same package, but then again you can just go with it and see where the adventure leads you.
The gameplay mechanics are as classic as they can get in the genre, which means that you have to jump, avoid enemies and collect a few things every now and again. On the other hand, the developers did not put enough work into the mechanics, so everything feels extremely unpolished and annoying, especially when it comes to the collision system and level design.
Collect bonuses to make your character stronger
Every now and again you stumble onto enemies that make your life harder, but most of them can be avoided by simply jumping over them. Others choose to pursue you, on the other hand, and there’s no tutorial to tell you what to do when this happens. At first it appears that you have no way to attack, so it takes a while to understand what needs to be done, which is frustrating.
Lastly, the controls are very imprecise and laggy, so that is yet another thing that gets on your nerves from the first few minutes of gameplay. The collision system makes jumping somewhat awkward and difficult as well, but you can learn to live with this with enough determination. Lastly, the graphics are not necessarily bad, but the repetitive level design is pretty annoying.
An unpolished platformer with a long list of flaws
In the end, Chucky And Tribe Ewok is a fairly disappointing game, even if it is designed for the casual market. However, less experienced gamers deserve decent controls and nice level design as well, so there’s no real excuse for the lack of polish.
