Description
Goo Goo is a game that sends out a lot of mixed signals. It looks like Paint is its best friend when it comes to design and at first, gameplay initially seems to have been put together just to test some stuff out. However, you have to play it to see that it’s a rather fun and challenging puzzle game that’s just intentionally wrapped in a whimsical-nonchalant shell.
A game that’s casual on all levels and in all aspects
First off, Goo Goo is that kind of game that you get to appreciate as you play it. Sure, it looks rather tacky but you can just as well consider it to be minimalistic, and colorful. The sound effects are dev recorded (that has to be his voice) and although it might feel strange, it’s actually part of the ‘I don’t care if you like it, it’s funny!’ approach. It’s a bit of personal touch to which you do get used to. Goo Goo is a game that you shouldn't take too seriously because even it doesn’t do so, just enjoy the colors and the increasingly tough levels.
Gameplay that’s not all that original but it certainly is relaxing
From a scale of 1 to 10 you can’t rate Goo Goo. Depending on how much experience you have with similar games it can either be a walk in the park or tough as nails. Gameplay comes down to stretching a yellow ball in the direction you want it to go and then let the laws of physics take over.
Collect stars and as you reach new rooms, different mechanics emerge which complicate things a bit but also make the game a lot more fun to play. In its simplicity, Goo Goo actually is a solid little puzzle game that doesn’t really inspire that much confidence at first but hey, you know the saying about the books and its cover.
Simple, fun and… efficient
To wrap it up, Goo Goo is a decent puzzle game that’s built to do its job, which is to entertain or help you pass some time. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel but it certainly makes it look different.
