Survival is a fun concept in video games, which is why developers try so hard right now to stumble into the perfect formula. Zombie games seem to have taken over the market, but there are many other non-undead experiences you can try. Faster Than Light, Don’t Starve and a variety of other small, but incredibly fun and challenging games have gamers all over the world trying to survive.

Explore a dungeon and kill the monsters residing in it

Witch Blast takes its inspiration from The Binding of Isaac, yet another brilliant game in the genre. However, it only borrows a few concepts, so it’s not exactly the same recipe. Survival is still the most important aspect, on the other hand, since everything in the dungeon you try to explore is there to kill you. With enough skill and the help of powerful magic items, survival is possible, on the other hand.
There is not much of a story to talk about, since you kind of make your own as you go. However, you play the role of a novice wizard, who goes on a quest to gain experience, fame and glory as an adventurer. A dungeon is the natural place to try and do so, given the fact that they always seem to be the preferred shelter for demons, dragons and various other vicious creatures.

Simple gameplay mechanics and powerful bosses

Your character can only move, attack and slow down time when you need to do so. It only takes a minute or two to understand everything there is to know about the game, but the challenge remains for a very long time. You have to learn how to properly cast your spells, especially since you can attack in all four directions using your keyboard. Obviously, the spells can be changed as you manage to get stronger.
From a technical point of view, the game is pretty simple, but it’s certainly not ugly. The level design can be a bit barren every now and again, especially since most rooms seem to look the same in most regards, but everything else is pretty smooth. In addition, there are many types of enemies to fight against, not to mention the slightly larger bosses, which can present quite the challenge under the right circumstances.

Collect gold and use it at the store

All in all, Witch Blast has a bright future ahead of it, especially if the developers keep adding more content and refining the gameplay. Furthermore, it would be nice to see more textures and different room designs, because the experience gets a tad stale after a while.
