Survival games seem to be more than popular nowadays, especially when there are so many different options to choose from. Whether you want something complex, simple, hardcore or just fun, you can have your pick and not be disappointed. However, there are also many indie productions that try to get a share of the market, and they usually come with great ideas.

Protect yourself from evil slug men

There Was a Slugmen Rebellion is a 2D survival game in which your goal is to gather resources and try to survive night after night of slug men attacks. It’s not as complicated as Minecraft or Don’t Starve, but the main idea is pretty much the same, only on a much smaller scale. In order to survive, you have to build fortifications and craft yourself some mean weapons to wipe out the enemies.
You start with what appears to be a pickaxe, which can be used to cut trees and even destroy rock. It’s mandatory that you move quickly, because the day only lasts a few minutes, and you must collect as much wood as you can. This can then be used to build an improvised shelter, although the enemies can sometimes break through if you don’t use enough blocks.

Craft swords and use them to eliminate nests

It is also possible to grow food and replenish your HP when you are running low. Swords are also available, and they obviously increase the amount of damage you do. In order to fortify your base, turrets can be crafted and positioned strategically to take out any enemies. Finally, you can assault the nests of the slug men and finish the game for good.
As far as the technical side of things is concerned, you need to be prepared for simplicity, because that what you’ll get. Everything is as basic as it can get when it comes to graphics, and it is even difficult to make out which block is which sometimes. You can get used to it after a while, but the game doesn’t last very long anyway.

Not a lot of original content to enjoy

All in all, There Was a Slugmen Rebellion is not a very revolutionary game, but it wasn’t intended as such anyway. It can still be the perfect distraction for a lazy afternoon, so there’s no harm in giving it a try.
