Description
Being the only man capable of saving the world must be quite the burden, especially if everyone around you knows that and is counting on you. However, it’s interesting to think about a scenario where you can only save yourself, and whether it would be worth the effort, knowing that everything but you will be gone if the plan works out.
A farmer tries to escape the end of the world
One Second Before Disaster is an interesting first-person survival game in which your goal is to help a farmer build a spaceship and avoid the collision of an asteroid with the Earth. The actual gameplay is all about finding the necessary resources to build the said spaceship, and it’s actually quite simple to do so if you pay attention to the environment make the most out of your tools.
There’s no explanation as to how the farmer knows about the asteroid and no one else does, and it’s quite laughable to think that he can build a spaceship with materials he finds in the ground using shovels and pickaxes. It’s also quite funny to consider the fact that he only has five minutes to do all this, although the situation is pretty ridiculous even without the tiny time window.
Basic graphics and repetitive gameplay
The adventure gets boring way before the five minutes expire, on the other hand, because digging around in the dirt for magical spaceship parts is far less exciting than it sounds. There are also no actual clues as to where to search and how to do that, and this isn’t exactly the kind of game that’s fun to explore in depth and find out more about it.
Lastly, the graphics are not bad, but they are way too basic to keep you engaged. The biggest fault lies with the fact that the map is very small and unimpressive, which is quite the bummer when it’s the only one you get to explore. It takes less than a minute to go from one end to the other, and there are many invisible walls to block your path when you happen to stray too far.
A poor attempt at the survival genre
In the end, One Second Before Disaster has too many flaws to be fun for longer than a few minutes, or not even that. Hence, the lack of proper gameplay mechanics takes its toll on your mood and keeps you from enjoying yourself.
