Z Day Shootout

It’s tough to innovate a genre that involves shooting and zombies, because there’s only so much you can change when it comes to such a simple concept. However, it’s the freedom to do as you wish that can make or break a survival game, especially if it features an open world and no scripted missions to guide you along.

Survive a zombie invasion using a variety of weapons

Z Day Shootout is a first-person shooter in which you have to complete levels by shooting every zombie before they get a chance to do the same to you. You have a variety of weapons that can be used to achieve your purpose, but you need to find them first. Although you start with a knife, a pistol can be found near the first spawning point, as well as some ammunition to help you along.
The zombies can be pretty fierce, but they are also badly implemented in regards to AI and their movement patterns. They basically shuffle toward you and do nothing but touch you in order to deal damage, so unless you run away or get to higher ground, there’s nothing you can do if they get too close. On the other hand, you can climb on top of various platforms and shoot them with ease.

Basic graphics and poor level design

There’s barely any challenge in the game, which is quite the bummer, especially if you are an experienced shooter fan. The weapons have no kind of feedback, the bullets do not have any effect until a certain number is reached, and the melee weapon is basically a toy that cannot be used at all. Hence, there’s barely any reason to keep playing after you see how simple everything really is.
The graphics are very poor as well, especially when it comes to textures and special effects. It looks like a game from two decades ago, which wouldn’t have been too much of a problem if at least the level design was on point. Obviously, this is not the case, because you are stuck on cramped maps most of the time with nothing to see or do besides climb stairs or jump on boxes.

All things considered, Z Day Shootout fails to provide you with a fun experience if you were hoping for something out of the ordinary. In fact, the poor gameplay mechanics and boring level design make it very difficult to keep playing for more than a few minutes.
