Description
Unlikely friendships are a great way to tell a captivating story, which is why the premise is used so often in books, movies and video games. However, it can be difficult to get the right combination, especially since audiences are already used to way too many cliches. Hence, originality is hard to come by these days, mainly because it’s much easier to reuse an idea that to come up with something new.
Defeat the enemies and solve puzzles
The Boy And The Golem 2 is an action-adventure game in which you control two characters at once, and you have to use their combined powers to overcome a variety of obstacles. There’s not much of a background story, but at least there’s always something to do. Puzzles and battles occupy most of your time, even if the experience gets a tad too repetitive.
Both the boy and the golem have unique abilities that allow them to tackle specific tasks, and it’s quite fun to switch between them. Naturally, the golem is a lot stronger than the boy, which allows it to push heavy objects and handle enemy attacks with ease. However, the boy’s physique enables him to access cramped places and use his bow to pick off enemies from a distance.
Decent graphics and simple controls
Unfortunately, the gameplay is a bit too dull and repetitive, given the fact that you are always doing the same thing. Walking and occasionally tackling charging enemies gets boring in a rush, especially since there are no interesting gameplay mechanics to keep you engaged. Even the puzzles are simple and straightforward, so don’t expect anything too great in this regard either.
Lastly, the graphics are nothing to write home about either, but they are not bad either. The camera is awkwardly placed to make you feel like you are playing a 2D platformer, but you are actually free to move in three dimensions. Hence, it’s quite disorienting sometimes, especially since this is not really made clear when you start playing.
A decent adventure game with a few puzzles
All in all, The Boy And The Golem 2 could have offered a lot more with the elements at its disposal, but it failed to do so. Thus, the final product is just a tasteless adventure game with nothing special about it.
