Description
Top-down shooters are not necessarily a thing of the past, but they are pretty rare nowadays, given the fact that modern technology allows developers to create much more personal experiences with ease. Hence, first and third-person action games are a lot more popular and in demand, as well as much more engaging in certain aspects.
Survive the hordes of undead monsters
Night Among The Graves is a top-down survival shooter that challenges you to stand your ground against hordes of zombies. You can use a rifle and Molotov cocktails in order to defend yourself, but you can also pick up armor and health packs to nurse your wounds after too many close encounters. On the other hand, the game is way too simple sometimes, gameplay-wise.
You can set up the game in the beginning, but the options at your disposal are way too basic. In essence, all you can change is the length of time you have to survive, as well as the difficulty level. It would appear that the map is randomly generated, but don’t expect a lot of variety, since it’s basically a maze sporting the same buildings and pathways, except in a few different patterns.
Simple graphics and lackluster mechanics
The game’s major issue is the fact that you quickly run out of bullets, and except for the Molotov cocktails that are rather hard to use, there are no other weapons to use on the enemies. Hence, you can find yourself unable to stay alive, given the fact that only the undead zombies drop ammunition when you kill them. It’s easy to see how the formula breaks down at some point, especially if you are a bad aim and you waste bullets.
Lastly, the graphics are about as simple as you imagine, given the top-down perspective and the lack of variety in regards to the level design. However, the game is certainly not ugly, but there are much bigger problems than the visual appeal. The same can be said about the sound effects and the music, which although are simple, they complete the atmosphere somehow.
Moderate fun and too many gameplay mistakes
All things considered, Night Among The Graves is not a masterpiece of the genre, but it can keep you busy for a few minutes. On the other hand, the annoying lack of ammunition and bad design choices can take their toll on your will to continue.
