Description
Arcade games can be very therapeutic in the right conditions, at least if they feature a progressive difficulty level and enough levels not to become boring and repetitive very quickly. It’s also important for the gameplay mechanics to be diverse enough, otherwise the challenge is not worth the effort when you are constantly trying to do the same thing over and over again.
Collect points and avoid the mines
Submarine Adventure Sea is a casual game in which you control a submarine that must collect starfish in order to increase your score. There’s nothing more to it than that, which is a bit of a bummer, because the idea could have been expanded with just a little bit more effort. However, you can still have a few fun minutes with it in the right conditions.
Each starfish you collect adds a few points to your overall high score, but it’s also important to avoid the mines that appear ahead. These mines cause your submarine to explode on contact, so a single hit is enough to end the game and force a restart. It’s pretty simple to avoid them in the beginning, but things get a bit tougher later on.
Simple and repetitive level design
The only thing that changes as you manage to survive is the speed of the submarine, since it starts moving faster and faster. This forces you to react much quicker to the environment, but the bad news is that nothing else evolves along the way. Hence, the level is pretty much the same from start to finish, and there’s not much to see anyway.
The graphics are not bad per se, but they make no impression when variety is missing entirely. Just a handful of different backgrounds would have sufficed, as well as more types of obstacles and some kind of power-ups to keep you motivated. This way, you are bound to become bored with the game in a matter of minutes.
A disappointing experience even for casual gamers
In the end, it doesn’t really matter how lenient you are with the games you play, Submarine Adventure Sea has nothing to offer in any regard. However, it could certainly be improved with some work and a bit of additional content.
