Description
Having a tank under your control is not the kind of experience many people have, especially not during peaceful times. However, the last big war had millions of people involved, so chances were that you came in contact with a tank if you happened to live in one of the countries involved. Naturally, it difficult not to recognize their power, regardless of whether you see them in video or in real life.
Complete missions using a powerful tank
Black Eagle is a top-down action game in which you control a tank tasked with a variety of missions, although most of them require you to annihilate a certain number of enemies. There are not many strategy elements to make the experience feel challenging enough, but then again it’s pretty difficult to stay alive when the controls are awful and the mechanics are badly designed.
To begin with, you are given control over a fairly basic tank, and your only abilities are to move and shoot. The top-down perspective is not a bad choice for this type of action, but the implementation is very poor, because it takes a very long time to move and aim. Although this is a pretty realistic approach, the enemies do not have the same limitations, which is unfair.
Difficult controls and featureless maps
Your only goal is to explore the map and neutralize every enemy that you encounter, although that is easier said than done. You can only see a very small portion of the map at a time, so enemies can appear from any direction at any time. This takes strategy out of the equation, because your only option is to react to what’s coming to you and try to be quicker than the opponents.
Lastly, the graphics are very basic as well, but that wouldn’t be too much of a problem under normal circumstances. However, they are quite the bother in this case, because everything else is subpar as well. Thus, it doesn’t take long before the low resolution and the basic interface get on your nerves, especially when there are far better looking games out there at the moment.
Too many flaws to be worth your time
In the end, Black Eagle is neither a classic nor a proper casual game, so it fails to provide anyone with a fun time. Hence, unless you have nothing better to play, the game is far too annoying and repetitive to be any fun.
