Description
Wizards are cornerstones of fantasy tales, because they serve as convenient plot devices that explain almost everything with the power of magic. Although it’s not always the case, wizards are also the most powerful creatures in most stories, especially if they happen to be on the side of evil. Hence, magic is not something that can only be used for good, not by a long shot.
Five wizards with five stolen talismans
Taimumari is an arcade platformer with adventure elements and a story that keeps you engaged from the first few minutes of gameplay. There are no incredible new mechanics to talk about, since the formula is as basic as it gets in the genre, and the level design is rather poor as well, but the overall experience has what it takes to sparkle curiosity in you.
The story puts you in the role of a character who must save the world from evil by chasing five wizards, who have absconded with five powerful talismans. These talismans are needed to prevent the end of the world, which is why you travel to a variety of worlds in order to retrieve them. It’s not a very original tale, but it certainly gets your imagination going right from the start.
Jump over gaps and mind the enemies
Most of the gameplay should be familiar to fans of platformers, given the fact that your job is to jump from one object to the other and avoid a variety of other traps. Enemies make an appearance later on as well, but they are not as dangerous as you might expect. They pose a challenge, on the other hand, which is enough to keep the adrenaline pumping through your veins.
Lastly, the graphics are nothing to write home about either, but the retro style is pretty enough to remind you of classics from the past. On the other hand, it must be mentioned again that the level design is very barren and unexpectedly disappointing, even if sometimes there’s plenty to see. Hence, most of your adventure is spent looking at plain backgrounds with nothing worthy to admire.
A decent game that needs more work
All in all, Taimumari could easily be improved in the future, at least if the designers do a better job when it comes to representing the game world. In addition, the gameplay feels a tad too repetitive as well, which is odd even for a platformer.
