Description
Sonic Spike is a nice little game designed for Sonic fans who are looking for a new casual experience that is also fairly challenging.
A simple ‘collect everything‘ platformer
Sonic Spike doesn't come with the same vivid and unique world that you’re probably used to form the original titles, instead, it's a simplified version that makes it a basic platformer. All you have to do is collect all the rings that are found in a level to be able to advance to the next one.
You have to jump from one platform to another, and the only way you can die is if the minions that roam the map hit you a couple of times. Of course, you can kill them using your spindash ability which is very easy to use thanks to the simple controls.
Plenty of levels to play
Sonic Spike provides six zones, each with 10 levels which is a lot considering that some of them take you a good couple of minutes to finish. Moreover, if you complete a zone in less than 20 minutes, you will be rewarded with a Chaos emerald. For those who enjoy completing a game at 100%, that reward is bound to be a good extra challenge.
The controls in Sonic Spike are very simple in terms of layout but when it comes to actually controlling Sonic, it will often feel like there is a delay to them. It does take you a couple of minutes to get a good handle on them and even after that there will be plenty of times when you’ll fall at the bottom of a level because you didn’t take your finger off the left or right key sooner.
A decent Sonic inspired platformer
On a closing note, Sonic Spike is fairly ok. You won’t really feel like you’re playing Sonic but it still is a decent substitute or an alternative for the real thing.
