Power Rangers: Beats of Power

Every superhero created over the years had to bring something new to the table in order to gain a following, and it got more difficult later on when all the good superpowers were already taken by famous superheroes. Hence, it would seem ludicrous to create not one, but a whole team of superheroes at once, plus a couple of villains to give them something to fight with every episode.

The Power Rangers are back in action

Power Rangers: Beats of Power is a retro beat ‘em up game in which you get to play with all the members of the team and use their special abilities to defeat bad guys and fight against the evil Lord Zedd. In essence, the game is all about defeating wave after wave of enemies while making your way across a variety of environments, but there’s a bit of skill involved every now and again.
The story is not very complex, since it never was very complex in the TV series either. Hence, Lord Zedd has some sort of evil scheme in order to destroy the city or take over the world, and the Power Rangers must stop them. Each one of them is caught by surprise by the henchmen, which is why they are out of costume. Hence, you’ll have to make it without the costume at first, which is not that difficult anyway.

Nice sprites and fluid combat

In case you haven’t played a beat ‘em up before, it must be mentioned that the action can get a tad repetitive after a while, especially since you are fighting the same enemies over and over again. However, every Power Ranger has unique abilities and powers that come in handy, not to mention the fact that you also get to fight bosses that require a lot more concentration.
As for the controls, the only two keys you need are the attack and special attack, although there’s one more that can be used to jump. This is useful when you need to dodge dangerous attacks, but you can also use a roll in very much the same way. Thankfully, at least the controls are responsive and simple, even if your character has a tendency to perform long animations that do nothing but waste time.

A great treat for Power Rangers fans

All things considered, Power Rangers: Beats of Power is not much of an original game concept, but it’s quite well-polished for an indie production. In addition, it seems to have enough content to keep you busy for a while.
