Description
Whenever some world is under threat of being destroyed by a great evil that has the power to wipe out everyone and everything, someone comes forth to save the day at the last second. Not only that, but he or she also does everything alone, because there’s always a chosen one with the exact opposite power of the villain to fight for the good guys.
Help a race of ancient people survive
CORDILLERA is a 2D platformer that features a lot of jumping and a lot of running, plus the mandatory succession of deep pits that somehow still allow for entire villages to exist in between. In short, the game feels and plays like a classic platformer, except that the main character must take full advantage of the double jump feature in order to survive the stages and make it to the end.
Speaking of which, the story is a classic as well, given the fact that it features a great evil that’s about to destroy the main character’s world. Hence, your name is Aethel, and you happen to be blessed with the unique power of jumping much higher than the rest of your people. As it happens, this is exactly what’s needed to lead the fight against the evil that’s on its way.
Simple, yet expressive and nice graphics
The gameplay is not very complex, since all you have to do is run, jump and occasionally talking with certain characters. There’s no way to defeat your enemies, so the only choice is to jump over them and make sure you never touch anyone. This adds a bit of a challenge, but then again this is the only challenge you have to overcome, which is a bit of a bummer.
Thankfully, at least the graphics are pretty nice, even if they are pretty basic in regards to the technology used. However, the artwork is quite interesting, not to mention the combination of dark themes and colorful backgrounds, which improves the overall atmosphere. In the same regard, the soundtrack works its wonders as well, even if there’s nothing special about it.
A simple platformer for lazy afternoons
All things considered, CORDILLERA can be pretty fun under the right circumstances, but most of the time it’s pretty dull and repetitive. Hence, it’s quite possible that it may be too slow and too empty for most platformer fans out there.
