Paint the Town Red is a game title that kind of tells you it’s going to be fun. It actually is because it’s something created to be totally over the top without taking itself too seriously.

Fight your way out using everything from pool balls to machetes

The plot to Paint the Town Red is very simple. You’re a cop that infiltrated a ruthless gang of dangerous men and one day while at the local bar playing a casual game of pool, your cover is blown and they immediately set out to kill you.
Since staying alive is a more appealing option, you hold on to the cue stick and start swinging it at the bad guys like your life depends on it, because it does. Since it’s made of wood, it soon breaks over the head of some gang members so you quickly have to find something else to use.
Luckily for you, you’re at the bar, where everything goes. Bar stools, chairs, pool balls, bottles, cracked bottles, knives, are all at your disposal ready to be bashed, smashed and crashed over the gang members’ heads.

Simple, captivating and gore-free

Initially, from a game with this kind of setting and gameplay, you would expect it to be unsettling but that’s not the case. The opponents are designed to look funny, the effects are subtle and nice and the blood splatters when you crush a skull or cut a head off are represented by large voxels.
Along with the amusing and well implemented contact physics, Paint the Town Red also features a really good soundtrack that kind of puts you in the bar-fight mood. It doesn’t last too long though, at some point even the band comes to pick a fight with you.

A casual game if you fancy a bit of miniature mayhem

On a closing note, Paint the Town Red is a little game that can really keep you going for a long time, or, until you literally break everything there is to break in that bar.
