Description
Depending on how many episodes of The Walking Dead you watched, you may already have a few bug-out bags and maybe a sturdy underground bunker prepared for the inevitable zombie apocalypse. Besides comics, movies and TV shows, video games are also quite keen on featuring at least a few undead brain eaters in their stories.
Stay alive by shooting everything that comes your way
Shooter Zombies is a first-person shooter in which the primary concern is survival, given the fact that you are alone amidst a full-blown zombie apocalypse. The game is split into a few different and standalone levels, each one of which features a different layout and packs quite the challenge. Unfortunately, the experience is far from pleasant or exciting, due to the fact that almost every component is broken in some way.
To begin with, the core gameplay mechanics are a mess, starting with the movement, all the way to the actual shooting and the zombies themselves. There is no feedback on the guns, the level design is sloppy and not very creative, and there are way too many glitches for this to be considered a finished product. You’ll often find yourself shoved through walls and unable to come back, not to mention the fact that headshots don’t seem to make any kind of difference.
Plenty of room for improvement
While it’s true that nobody would be able to enjoy this game at the moment, that doesn’t mean it cannot be improved. The first step would be to make the zombies a bit slower and maybe add better scripts when it comes to their attack patterns, because right now they just flock into a blob and almost fuse with each other. Then, players need to be able to take advantage of their good aim, because it’s frustrating to hit five headshots in a row and see the zombie still coming for you.
There’s plenty of work in the technical department as well. First and foremost, the zombies seem to float rather than walk, and there are only a handful of 3D models included. Thus, you’ve got a horde of floating zombies that all look the same, which kills the mood from the first few seconds of gameplay. Naturally, better textures and shaders wouldn’t hurt either, but they are less important in this case.
Maybe not the best niche to approach right now
In the end, Shooter Zombies is not worth your time at the moment, but that can change as long as the developer keeps improving it. However, the genre is pretty packed right now with all sorts of games that offer so much more, so maybe this is not the right niche to try and penetrate.
