I Remember This Dream

I Remember This Dream, at first, feels like it’s another game that takes after the popular ‘lost in the woods and something is after you’ scenario. However, after a few minutes into the game you’ll see that although that is the core assumption, there’s a lot more to it than meets that initial eye.

It’s all about the quality

I Remember This Dream is built using Unreal Engine 4 and with a little bit of a computer you can enjoy that to great effect. However, visual quality doesn’t lie in how each object looks but rather on how it all fits together. On their own, the trees could have been much better but looking at the forest in its vastness, you won’t have anything to complain about.
Moreover, there’s (probably) a reason for why the trees are how they are. As the night creeps closer, the trees in the distance seem to lose their shape; some appear out of nowhere their contour gets indistinguishable and all of that makes you feel as if the forest is changing as you walk through it.
As far as the audio goes, it’s close to being absolutely excellent. One thing you miss at times is the absence of the wind, that kind of wind that complicates things. Additionally, you won’t be able to hear wild animals or birds, not even owls. Which gets you thinking, what lurks in this forest that killed every living thing except maybe you?

Simple gameplay with a very good narrative

I Remember This Dream isn’t about jump scares. It allows you to casually walk through the snow covered forest until the character’s thoughts and memories start to create an atmosphere that gets more and more tense with each step you make.
All you can do is sprint and your stamina drains quite fast. There are no means to protect yourself from what’s out there, no map or clues. All you have are bells that can be heard from afar.

A great choice for those who like subtle scares

To sum things up, I Remember This Dream, is a very good game. It plays very well, it looks great and the way the story unfolds makes you clench harder and harder to the mouse as the atmosphere gets more and more tense.
