Description

Although movies and video games try very hard to do it, it is not difficult at all to scare the audience, and you certainly do not need a whole array of monsters and demons. The atmosphere is all that matters, which includes the location, soundtrack, story and visual quality. As long as these elements work together, there’s not even a need for hellish environments or decapitations.

A recreation of the famous playable teaser

PuniTy is not actually an original game, but more of a remake. In fact, it is an exact recreation of the playable teaser presented by Konami at E3 a few years back for their Silent Hill campaign. Although the said game never came to fruition since then, the hallway sequence got to be very popular with the audience, and it is still one of the scariest experiences on the PlayStation.
Now, you have the chance to play it for yourself, even if you do not own a PlayStation. The game at hand is developed in Unity, but you wouldn’t be able to tell from the looks of it. In fact, it looks and feels like something much more modern, which is why the atmosphere is almost the same as well. You only get to waltz from one end of the hallway to the other, but things get creepy after the first few steps.

Impressive level design and visual quality

The developer managed to recreate almost everything about the teaser, which is impressive when you realize that he did it all by himself. Almost every object and photo is in there, not to mention the similar textures and models. The sounds send chills down your spine, especially since the triggers are well-programmed and they synchronize with the rest of the environmental changes.
Speaking of which, you can also use a flashlight and zoom in a bit whenever you need to do so. There are no missions or quests, but parts of the environment change every time you go back and return from one end of the hallway to the other. Lights go dark, doors screech, babies laugh and Lisa makes an appearance as well, just to put an end to your fascination with horror games.

Top-notch design and smooth gameplay

All in all, PuniTy is only around five minutes long, depending on how long you take to examine the surroundings. However, it is just as terrifying as the official teaser, so it’s definitely a good thing that PC users can finally enjoy it as well.
