Description
Survival was a lot more important back when humans did not have technology, as well as a lot tougher. Hence, staying alive in a cave somewhere for a whole winter is no easy task, especially for children or older folks. On the other hand, humans were also a lot sturdier, given the fact that they had to hunt their food and perform a variety of other hardcore tasks.
Defeat the cold and survive the winter
Alone In Winter is a third-person survival game in which your goal is to gather resources in order to make it over the fast-approaching winter. You find yourself in the middle of nowhere, on the other hand, with no help and nowhere to run. Thus, the task is much more difficult than it should be, especially since you have to face the cold of the forest while you search for useful items.
The adventure starts with your character at full health, plus a few other statistics you have to keep an eye on such as stamina, thirst or hunger. Obviously, body temperature is important as well, otherwise you might not be able to make it back to the cabin. Speaking of which, the actual goal is to hoard resources to the abandoned cabin your character finds in the beginning and hope that they last for the whole winter.
Basic graphics and annoying camera
There’s nothing to do but wander around the map and try to spot resources, such as raw meat pieces just casually lying on the ground for some reason. Wood is important as well, although it appears to be rather scarce, in spite of the thick forest you have to navigate. There are a few other types of resources you can find, but it takes a long time to do so.
Lastly, the most annoying part is that the camera view is fixed at a very weird angle, making it impossible to rotate the view and look around you. This makes exploration tedious and annoying, because the map is repetitive and you rarely know whether you are walking in circles or not. Other than that, the visual quality is quite decent, even if there’s not much to see.
Too many annoyances to be worth the effort
All things considered, Alone In Winter is barely worth the effort it takes to survive, given the lack of diversity and the awkward gameplay mechanics. Thus, there are far better games out there, which makes it difficult to see why would you prefer this one.
