Description
AirMess is a racing game developed specifically for the Windows 8 and RT versions, and which was later made to work on newer versions.
There aren’t too many quality free game out there, but AirMess happens to be one of them. It’s a Wipeout-type game that offers quite a lot of content and which also happens to be completely free. It’s developed by one man, and numerous updates have been released until now.
Wipeout used to be all the rage back in the day, but the gaming community wants more realistic titles, so these arcade and insane versions are not made anymore. Fortunately for us, AirMess is here to save the day, even if some you might not like it since it was initially built to promote free games in the Windows Store.
Not the best, but not the worst
AirMess comes with some basic options and a couple of racing modes that include regular races and challenges. It’s not a big game, and there is not much content. The races itself are rather bland but really unpredictable.
The AI does a fairly good job, but it seems to be inept in using the weapons and other powers. The races provide users with various powers, like rockets, mines, shields, and speed boosts. While people will find these very useful, you will notice that the AI is nowhere near as aggressive as he should be.
Time challenges seem to be much more fun, which is weird. You would think that regular races are the main attraction, but they are not. The reason for that is the physics engine, which is somewhat weird. The cars (or equivalent) seem to be fast, but they also move only in straight lines. There is no drifting or any deviations, which makes the car feel robotic.
On the other hand, AirMess is free, and it looks OK, if we keep in mind that it’s free, which means that it’s probably being worked on sporadically. You can always download it, give it a go, and let us know what you think.
