Description
Exploration is not for everyone, because things can go wrong in a million ways when you are in uncharted territory. This is also the reason pioneers are so highly regarded by everyone, especially those who managed to make it to particularly tough places, such as the North Pole or the Moon. On the other hand, the dangers are significantly less severe if you are playing something on the computer.
Explore an alien planet and search for logs
Uncharted Planet is an exploration game in which your sole task is to walk around a desolated planet and search for someone. There are no buildings, animals, aliens or anything else, just a large stretch of land covered by trees and the occasional hill. In hindsight, it sounds a bit boring, but it all depends on how eager you are to clear your head and just forget about shooting things for a bit.
The story is not very complicated either, since it’s all about a private investigator trying to locate someone on a remote planet somewhere in the galaxy. The name of the missing person is David Romano, and his family paid you a lot of money to find him or his remains. As it happens, you do find a couple of logs that belonged to him, which is also how the story is relayed throughout the game.
Nice graphics and repetitive environments
Despite how eager you might be to explore and let your mind wander, it’s still pretty annoying that the level design is so repetitive and lackluster. In essence, there’s nothing to look at except for the trees, and they are not that pretty to begin with. Granted, there’s a bit of wind that makes everything seem a bit more eerie, but that’s about of it.
As far as the actual graphics are concerned, the game is created in Unity, so it certainly looks pretty nice. Still, seeing the same textures all over the place and almost zero variety when it comes to the vegetation makes it difficult to appreciate the engine. On top of it all, there’s not much of a soundtrack either, which is a must when there’s not much of a gameplay to keep your mind busy.
A bit more variety is needed
All things considered, Uncharted Planet could certainly evolve into something a lot more enjoyable, but it’s not quite there yet. Hence, it needs more variety in the scenery, otherwise the experience gets repetitive from the first couple of minutes. In addition, it is also possible to fall off the map if you walk far enough.
