Fishing is a pretty uneventful sport, because it’s rather dull even when someone manages to catch something. On the other hand, if the fish somehow turned into actual monsters that could eat humans whole, things would be a lot more exciting to watch, albeit sick. Thankfully, we have video games to replace reality when common sense stands in the way.

Horrible monsters must be hunted using the classic line and hook

Nightmare Fishing Tournament is an interesting concept that might just interest you if you have no issues with disturbing imagery and sick ideas. As such, it’s basically a fishing simulator/RPG in which you have to catch monstrous fish in order to win competitions and get a chance at a second life. The actual fishing is more like a secondary objective, because most of your time is spent hunting for them with a knife.
It all starts when the main character is rescued from a hellish pit by some sort or grim reaper/shopkeeper, who informs him that he gets a second chance at the living world if he manages to win ten tough fishing competitions. However, any mistake and he might end up eaten for good, because it would appear that the monsters in question can kill you forever.

Choose the desired bait and purchase valuable items

By winning competitions you rewarded with cash, which can be used by visiting the reaper and purchasing various goods from him. These goods include better bait and stronger items, not to mention the fact that you can also improve your character with additional perks. Hence, there’s a bit of RPG in there as well, but don’t expect anything too complex either.
Although you can drive the boat and cast the hook along with the bait, you can also jump into the water and attack the fish with your weapons, which is far more fun. On the other hand, it’s also a lot more dangerous, not only because the monsters are vicious, but also because you quickly run out of Oxygen and you must come out to the surface in order to breathe.

A nice concept that could be expanded

When it’s all said and done, Nightmare Fishing Tournament is not a very polished video game at the moment, but it’s certainly a great idea. Hence, it could evolve into something a lot better in the future with enough work and dedication from the developer.
