Description
Getting into the music industry is easier now than it has ever been, mainly because of the Internet. Virtually anyone can record themselves and get millions of viewers on website like YouTube, not to mention the fact that there are many powerful, yet easy-to-use tools that allow users to compose entire scores by themselves. However, what’s better than being in a band with your friends?
Take over the world with your new music band
RockRobin is an interactive visual novel/role-playing game in which you are tasked with the creation of a successful band, although that’s not the only thing you’ll be worrying about over the course of the story. However, unlike most visual novels out there, this one features a much more hands-on approach, which means that you have to make more choices and even keep an eye on multiple characters at once.
As such, the main plot puts you in the role of a girl by the name of Robin Gilly, who is just about to be kicked out of her band. Naturally, it all happens after she has a falling out with her boyfriend, who is the lead man in the band. In order to get back at him and pursue her career in music, Robin decides to form her own band, by recruiting all sorts of interesting characters in her journey.
Decide who plays in your band
There’s a lot of interaction involved when it comes to how you manage the band and its members, since you can customize a variety of aspects about it. It is also possible to upgrade your gear, buy better housing, or show off your artistic skills by designing album covers. You also receive feedback on your music and whether your fans appreciate it or not.
On top of it all, the game starts to shine once you play it multiple times, because after you unlock the story mode, you can pretty much do what you want and go nuts with all sorts of weird band formations and members. There are many options to choose from, and you can even pick from a handful of different music genres. Hence, as long as the developers keep their promise, this should turn out to be quite the enjoyable experience.
A different kind of visual novel
In the end, RockRobin shows a lot of potential, but it’s not out of the woods yet. There’s plenty of content still in the works, and the artwork is bit lackluster as well sometimes, especially when it comes to the backgrounds. However, the core concept is very intriguing, and it should attract a decent crowd once the whole thing is finished.
