Druid of the Catalyst

Druids are quite popular in fantasy stories, especially if there are any elves involved. However, this is not a new concept, since druids have actually existed thousands of years ago. Granted, they did not possess the power to morph into other animals, so the ones from World of Warcraft are definitely a lot more interesting. Even so, they are usually pretty weak in their human form.

Protect the Catalyst from monsters

Druid of the Catalyst is a simple strategy game in which you have to use good coordination and a bit of fast thinking to defeat hordes of enemies and protect a powerful crystal known as the Catalyst. The challenge sits with the fact that you have to protect your units and the crystal at the same time, and none of them can be healed or repaired, so it’s important to keep the damage to a minimum.
The druid sits in the middle of a knight formation and his job is to deal with the monsters using ranged attacks. Obviously, the knights are there to soak damage and cause some melee grief at the same time, but there’s more to them than just that. In short, you have the ability to change their formation with a click of a button, which comes in handy when you need a new approach.

Use walls to stop the enemy from advancing

Pure offense is not your only tactic, on the other hand, because it’s also possible to use your druid’s nature magic to grow roots out of the ground and create walls. These walls are perfect for slowing down the enemy units, but they can also get you stuck if you are not careful. Thankfully, at least they only last for a few seconds, which is both an upside and a downside, depending on how well you place them.
Each knight formation has its advantages, but they are all worthless if you do not use them at the right time. Whether you want a straight wall in front of the druid to protect him from charge attacks or a circle around him to avoid surprise ambushes, every formation comes in handy in particular situations. Still, the game is not overly complex either, especially since it features so little content.

A neat concept that could use more work

In the end, Druid of the Catalyst has the potential to turn into something much more exciting, especially if the developer adds more content and new mechanics. Even so, you can have plenty of fun with the game in its current state.
