Description
If you’re into little roguelike games and have a special place in your heart for those created using pixel art, then Pixel Dungeon is the one for you. It’s a casual game that takes you on a quest through a seemingly never ending dungeon to find the mysterious Amulet of Yendor.
Explore a random world that’s full of traps and monsters
Apart from its charismatic look, Pixel Dungeon also comes with a very large number of randomly created levels in which monsters are random, item placement is random and traps are random. This means that there’s a very slim chance of you seeing a room that looks familiar. And if it does, it’s almost a certainty that where you stepped last time, is now full of traps.
Right off the bat, Pixel Dungeon is not an easy game and that applies literally to your chances of winning. Due to the randomness of it all, the monsters are actually quite tough and if in a level you get a dozen of them and no means to heal yourself, you're pretty much a goner.
To make things even better, there is also that thing called permanent death. If you die, you die for good and it’s back to the beginning of it all. That amulet better be worth all the trouble.
You’ll do a lot of dying but you’ll also have fun
Dying in Pixel Dungeon is a certainty and you’ll be doing a lot of it. The game really doesn’t offer you any kind of certainty anywhere. If you manage to fight off four sewer rats and barely make it out alive there’s a big chance that the next step you’ll take will be on a hidden trap that kills you.
Now don't get us wrong, its full name isn’t ‘The Impossible Pixel Dungeon’. Dying is something common but seeing as how the game is fast-paced and fun to play, you won’t mind dying all that much.
Moreover, as you progress, there are plenty of items that your heroes can equip to make them tougher, potions to grant you special abilities and magic scrolls to use and… probably die. Some of them have unknown consequences if used.
A really fun mini dungeon crawler for a casual day
On a closing note, Pixel Dungeon has way too many things going on for you to not want to try it. Apart from the aforementioned features you can inscribe weapons, shop for new items, heroes can choose specialties and there are even mini quests to do.
