Description
The human mind is the most complex thing we know about in the universe up to this point, so it’s only natural that we do not know everything about it. However, we know enough to understand its basic mechanism, which in turn allows us to strengthen our minds and train them to perform certain tasks. Even so, it can let us down every now and again, especially when it comes to remembering things.
Help an idea come to fruition
Mindhole is a 2D platformer with a very interesting concept at its core, one that makes an otherwise unimpressive game very intriguing. As such, you play the role of an idea in someone’s head, and the goal is to help it avoid distractions and other obstacles in order to be expressed. It’s a very clever interpretation of the process, and it’s quite fun to see how easily we get distracted by every little thing in our day-to-day lives.
To begin with, the most important gameplay mechanic is the fact that you can rotate the whole level 90 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise. This allows you to navigate the stages with relative ease, at least as long as you manage to keep up with the ever-changing perspective. In addition, the controls are a bit sketchy and laggy, so that may hinder your fun as well.
Simple graphics and decent level design
As mentioned before, there are many distractions to watch out for, including literal stumps that can block the idea from forming. Besides that, red controllers act as distractions, and their effect is that of a forced 90-degree rotation, which obviously causes you to momentarily lose track of the road. Spikes are the most dangerous, on the other hand, because they subtract clarity.
Speaking of which, you have to continually boost your clarity by picking up coffee cups and other helpful things, otherwise you run out and the idea is lost. It’s always a race against time, which makes the experience much more challenging. As for the graphics, there’s nothing truly amazing about them, but that wasn’t the purpose of the game anyway.
A neat experience for platformer fans
All things considered, Mindhole is a very engaging game, especially if you are a fan of challenging platformer and you do not give up easily. However, it could use a touch up when it comes to controls, because right now they are way too laggy and imprecise, which can cause unnecessary frustration.
