Lightfall Remake

Every platformer has to include some kind of interesting feature in order to attract attention, otherwise it’s just another game with jump & run mechanics. However, developers seem to be able to innovate the genre on a regular basis, especially since everyone has access to great tools nowadays when it comes to game engines and the like.

Use speed to overcome obstacles and avoid dangers

Lightfall Remake is a 2D platformer in which you have to avoid the traps and make it to the end of the level as quickly as possible, although there’s no timer keeping track of you. Instead, the real challenge is making it to the end alive, because there are all sorts of obstacles designed to make your life hell and cause you to give up early, at least if you are not a hardcore fan of the genre.
The game is heavily inspired by an indie production that’s on its way to being released in the near future, which means that it’s far from original. However, there are some differences as well, even if they are not very noticeable. In essence, you have to run to the exit and use a cube to spawn your own platforms, as well as to protect yourself from enemies and other dangers.

Basic graphics and annoying controls

It must be mentioned that Lightfall Remake is in a pretty rough state at the moment, since nothing really works as it should. The character movement is imprecise and it can cause you to fall for no good reason, not to mention the fact that the cubes never seem to spawn as they should. The level design is very disappointing as well, given the fact that there’s nothing to see but jagged lines and solid colors.
Speaking of which, the graphics are pretty poor, although that’s not usually a problem in retro games, because they are designed to be pixelated. However, there’s a difference between retro and just bad, which happens to be the case here. Things might improve over time, but it’s clear that the game might end up in a rough shape even after it’s finished.

An interesting idea that needs more work

All things considered, Lightfall Remake is not the kind of game you want to play at the moment, especially not if you have experience with platforms and you know how a proper game plays like. Hence, this needs a lot of improvements before it can attract a decent audience.
