Description
Books are powerful and life-changing, although it depends on which ones you choose to read. Most of the writers try to express their thoughts and ideas in regards to a certain subject, which in turn help you identify your real opinions as well, but there are also those who just want to write for money. Hence, reading a book is not always helpful, especially nowadays.
Experience and live through book adventures
Ink Travellers is a top-down role-playing game in which you get to be a part of the books instead of just reading them. Granted, the books in question are mostly children’s tales about magical creatures and talking animals, but it’s still a fun experience nevertheless. The whole game is pretty simple and to the point, as a matter of fact, so you shouldn’t expect any hardcore RPG elements.
The story talks about two brothers who decide to get their sick grandfather a present, and it has to be a really nice one. However, they do not have any gold to spend on fancy gifts, so they ask a passing witch for something they might use. She gives them a magic key, one that allows them to unlock the way into whatever book they desire. Hence, they decide to look for a present inside one of their books.
Navigate beautiful locations and battle enemies
Most of the scenes you get to visit are very colorful and fairytale-like, which does wonders for the overall experience. However, every tale has its dark side as well, which is why you should be prepared to deal with some foes every now and again. As you may have guessed, the combat system is turn-based, so that every character or creature gets to make a move when its turn comes.
As far as the graphics are concerned, the 2D engine is very old and basic, but the artwork is quite striking, especially when you consider the outdated technology used to render it. Granted, the maps are very small and claustrophobic, which is why the adventures feel short and unrewarding as well, but that doesn’t mean you cannot daydream for a few minutes.
A happy tale for the optimists out there
In the end, Ink Travellers is not your typical RPG, but it can be a breath of fresh air to those who need something colorful and cheerful to brighten their day. On top of that you also have to make some concessions in regards to multiple typos you’ll come across.
