Description
Runner games are relatively new on the market, given the fact that they were designed to be enjoyed on devices like smartphones and tablets. However, it would appear that the genre expanded on PC as well, although it obviously needs more time before it acquires a decent fan base. Until then, indie productions are the only ones keeping everything moving.
Help Detective Blob find and catch his suspects
Detective Blob and the Thing That Happened is a runner game in which you play the role of a detective always on the run after criminal and dangerous individuals. The game features tough and fast-paced gameplay mechanics, which means that it might take you a while until you manage to get the hang of them. On the other hand, you might not have the patience to resist all that long.
There’s not much of a story to keep you engaged, since Detective Blob is supposedly traveling around the world in search of exciting cases, yet that does not seem to have any effect on the gameplay. In fact, every level feels more or less the same, which causes a lot of boredom later on. On top of it all, the difficulty level is a bit too much as well, especially for beginners.
Simple graphics and annoying bugs
There are a couple of unexplained annoyances as well, some of which make it almost impossible to get past certain sections. As an example, the game suffers awful frame drops at one point, which cause input lag as well. This only happens in certain points throughout one of the levels, but it can be enough to ruin your chances because the commands you send arrive late.
As for the graphics, such games never look too impressive, because you do not have time to admire the scenery anyway. The same is true for Detective Blob and the Thing That Happened, which features retro graphics and model level design when it comes to backgrounds. Granted, at least there are multiple tile sets and themes to enjoy when you move between levels.
A few flaws to watch out for
All things considered, Detective Blob and the Thing That Happened could use a lot more work in many areas, but it’s certainly on the right track. Hence, if the performance issues are resolved and more variety is added when it comes to level design, this could certainly be a much more popular game.
