Description

Even the simplest concepts can be made into engaging video games, because it doesn’t take much to come up with an addictive gameplay formula. However, it’s important for the mechanics to stay engaging for as long as possible, as well as have enough levels to keep players busy. Even so, they can only stay exciting for so long until the stages become repetitive.

Move the colorful blocks and put them together

Color Blocks is a fun puzzle game in which the goal is to put a handful of colorful pieces together as efficiently as possible in order to occupy all the available space. The pieces come in all shapes and sizes, and the levels get bigger and bigger later on, which makes things difficult. Thankfully, the experience is fun enough to merit multiple playthroughs.
To begin with, the first few levels are more of an interactive tutorial, which is why they are also fairly simple and straightforward. Things get significantly more difficult later on, especially since you have to deal with a larger play area  More interesting pieces make an appearance as well, so you might have trouble figuring out which one goes where.

Plenty of stages to keep you busy

Although is quite fun to search for a solution to all the riddles, the truth is that nothing much changes from one level to the other. Hence, it’s inevitable that the gimmick gets boring after a while, especially since the difficulty flatlines halfway through. In fact, you can go through the entire game in one sitting, given the fact that it shouldn’t take you more than half an hour or so.
Lastly, the graphics are about as basic as you would expect, but the vertical window is a bit of a bummer on the PC. Besides the fact that it’s obviously a mobile port, it can also be difficult to interact with the puzzle pieces sometimes. Thankfully, at least the drag & drop mouse controls are functional, even if the interface has its flaws and drawbacks every now and again.

A nice idea that needs some polish

Although you can have decent amounts of fun with Color Blocks, the truth is that boredom can take over the experience too quickly. Hence, it would have been nicer for the game to feature more intricate level patterns and a higher difficulty level toward the end.
