Description
Many classic games have received remakes over the course of the years, mainly because they were too much fun to be forgotten. However, it’s not exactly simple to adapt an old idea to new technology, because some things may be lost in the process. Even so, it’s important for the main idea to remain the same, at least as long as the gameplay is fun.
Battle City reimagined as a 3D action game
Battle Ground 3D is not an original production, nor does it feature too many new ideas when it comes to mechanics and the gameplay in general. In short, this is 3D Battle City with multiple maps and a campaign mode, but other than that, there’s nothing to set the game apart as an original production. In fact, you can understand everything about it from the first minute.
Hence, you can start a campaign or enjoy yourself with a short deathmatch with the AI, choosing one of the multiple maps at your disposal. As for the action, it’s all about destroying the other tanks as quickly as possible, while avoiding to be destroyed yourself. To speed things up, it helps if you target the enemy base and bring it down entirely.
Collect various power-ups to gain the upper hand
Just like in the original game, you can collect certain power-ups along the way and use them to exert your superiority over the other combatants. These power-ups are dropped from airplanes randomly around the map, and the only thing you have to do is run over them. Speaking of which, the movement is atrocious, because it feels very stiff and difficult, making it a real chore to move across the map.
The shooting is rather dull as well, which is not good news in a shooter. Since there’s not much else to do, you might get bored in a rush, unless you find a way to come to terms with the rough mechanics and terrible movement. Thankfully, at least the graphics are decent, although you shouldn’t expect anything out of the ordinary in this regard either.
A nice clone that might just keep you busy for a few minutes
All things considered, Battle Ground 3D lacks the necessary polish to make you feel like you are having fun, because it’s way too stressful and annoying to be struggling with the tank movement across the map. Moreover, the repetitive gameplay and poor AI coding get on your nerves rather quickly as well.
