Description
Trapnoid 2 is one of the most indie platformers I have played in a long time. Not only are the graphics basic, borderline pixel art, the design of the levels is also fairly simple. However, this little game has a few tricks up its sleeve and most of them make the game interesting and challenging.
Play as a pixel wizard tasked to save the world
In Trapnoid 2 you are a low-resolution wizard who has to retrieve a magical crystal. The unique stone possesses all the powers of good but some evil creatures have stolen it. It’s up to you and your magic wand to recover it and save the day.
There is little room for more plot than that considering how small the game is, but it’s enough. Most of the accent falls on the controls of the character and how tricky they are to master. It’s what makes Trapnoid 2 the tough tiny game that it is.
Precision platforming 101
Trapnoid 2 is surprisingly difficult, or more accurately put, unexpectedly difficult. You’d think that something like this would be a basic platformer and nothing more. That, however, is not the case.
In Trapnoid 2, some tiles crumble beneath your feet, and you can easily die of you’re not careful. There are invisible platforms that you can see only if you use your special ability, you have powerups to collect, and you can boost your magic wand’s power.
Worth it if you’re into extremely indie platformers
To end, Trapnoid 2 is by all means interesting. It looks rather plain, and it’s not all that exciting but if you value gameplay, and just the challenge, it will offer you a good chunk of fun.
