Description
The Connection is one of those games in which you don't really get any proper indications as to what you have to do. To make things a bit more complicated, it’s a first-person puzzle game with a minimalistic approach to design.
Simple in design, complex in puzzles
Completing the first puzzle in The Connection won’t be a problem because the controls are explained and what you have to do comes instinctively. In total silence, you will have to rotate the corners of a cube so that they create a particular type of connection which unlocks a door to the next segment of the world.
The same applies to the rest of the puzzles but as you dive deeper into the game, the large shapes become more complex and the movable pieces vary in structure. It’s that latter aspect that complicates the game a whole lot because when the parts look different, how you need to make The Connection is unclear.
A silent journey of discovery
Apart from some obvious or hidden text plaques that say something but actually nothing at all, there is no other form of help for you. The Connection is that kind of puzzle game that will not even consider holding your hand, it’s built to be hard.
The environment looks nice if you’re into minimalistic design and you should explore it with care. It contains several hidden areas that, unfortunately, further complicate the game. You also never know what abstract hints the developer left for you.
An example of how you can create something good with very little
The Connection looks like a basic product, but it has a lot going on for it. Its gameplay is solid and well polished, it runs smooth and the puzzles are wonderfully complicated.
