Description
The simplest way to start a fight on the Internet is to bring up the subject of MOBAs, or even go a step further and declare that one of them is better than the other. Regardless of whether you say Dota, League of Legends, Smite or anything else, there are going to be a few incredibly offended people out there. On top of it all, things are much worse once you join a match, since even the players that like the same game hate each other for some reason.
Join a huge space war and help your commander take over the battlefield
Supernova is the new kid on the block, which means that no one got a chance to hate or love it yet. Unlike all the other contenders out there, this one aims for a sci-fi approach to the genre, which is a welcomed change from elves, paladins and the usual undead hordes. Hence, you’ll be controlling alien overlords and giant mech suits instead, although the underlying formula is more or less the same as in every other MOBA: control the map, improve your commander and kill everyone else.
There seems to be a bit more in Supernova, on the other hand, at least when it comes to hero customization and replayability. Unlike in Dota 2 or League of Legends, you can add attribute points, and juggle with a few other abilities as well, not just the four spells that are available for every commander. Special, team-oriented abilities are included too, and they must be used with care. All of these elements make the action a bit more dynamic, and one would be inclined to believe that the game won’t be as repetitive as the competition.
Nice graphics and responsive interface
As it’s only natural, it takes a while to give a decisive verdict on a game such as Supernova, because you can’t tell everything about it from a match or two. Balancing is nearly impossible to figure out at first, but it would appear that the developers worked pretty hard in this regard. It’s also worth mentioning that there are no items to buy, although you do earn extra ability points for your mob kills, which can only be spent in your base. This is sort of like artifacts, but not quite.
When it comes to the actual gameplay, you should figure it out right away, especially if you played any other MOBA on the market. A mouse is required to move your hero and the camera, while the keyboard is used to cast the desired abilities. As far as the graphics are concerned, they actually look very polished, even if this is an early version of the game. The same goes for the HUD, which displays everything you need to know at any given time.
Acquire currency and buy items from the store
In the end, Supernova is also free-to-play, but with a few optional purchases included. It would appear that these purchases do not affect the gameplay in any way, or at least they do not provide the players with any advantages. Hence, as long as the balance is kept, the game has a real chance at snatching the MOBA throne in the future.
