Most sports discourage violence at all costs, especially in the case of soccer, where players are penalized for injuring members of the opposing team. However, other sports allow pretty harsh tackles and practices, such is the case with American football or hockey. Players are not necessarily encouraged to hurt each other, but no one objects to the occasional acts of violence.

Hurt your adversaries to gain the advantage

Super Blood Hockey is a retro sports game in which the main goal is to win the match by any means necessary, even if that implies having to break a few skulls. In essence, the game is designed to look and feel like a classic NES/Sega title from back in the day, except with far more pixelated blood and a total disregard for the actual hockey rules.
To begin with, there are multiple teams to choose from, but it doesn’t really matter that much, because you can customize each player and create your own mini-roster. There are five players in each team, and you can choose the stats of each one of them from a short list of possibilities. Whether you want balanced players or superstars that excel in one or two categories, the choice is entirely up to you.

Nice pixel graphics and decent controls

As for the actual gameplay, the goal is to score as many points as you can until the match is over, which is pretty much like in the actual sport. The players run around the ice court and constantly tackle each other in order to get control of the puck, after which the next move is to get the said puck past the goalie. There are no tactics involved and nothing too complex, although you can change players on the fly if you want to try a game of pass.
Speaking of which, the controls are pretty straightforward as well, especially since you can also use Xbox controllers for better maneuverability. The keyboard + mouse combo works well too, although it can be a little imprecise at times. As for the graphics, they are actually quite nice and colorful, even if it gets boring to see the same court over and over again.

A great way to have fun with your friends

In the end, Super Blood Hockey is a very enjoyable little game, especially if you are a fan of retro productions and you do not mind the fact that it’s not yet finished. Thus, the game can provide you with quite a bit of fun, even against the simple AI.
