Description
Some of the earliest computer games ever made were Space Shooters that put you in charge of a futuristic ship, whether to destroy invading aliens or dangerous meteorites. If you’re feeling a pang of nostalgia and want to relive those days, Space Shooter may be worth a try.
Destroy space rocks and keep your ship safe
The gameplay is very simple, as are the controls. You can move your ship left and right using the arrow keys, and projectiles are fired by pressing the spacebar. There is nothing more to it, really, so you should be able to start annihilating space debris in no time.
The meteorites appear in random patterns, and they range in size from tiny pebbles to huge rocks that can obliterate your ship in a single hit. They are all just as easy to destroy, however, as a single projectile is more than enough to take them out.
Collect power-ups and use them to get the highest possible score
There are two types of power-ups for you to collect, and they seem to be generated randomly. The shields are designed to repair your space ship, while the bolts enable it to fire two or three projectiles at once.
Your ship can withstand a few impacts from smaller meteorites, but the larger ones are to be avoided at all cost. You start the game with three lives, but there is no way to replenish them once they have been used up.
It would have been great if there was a way to save your high score after completing a run. Sadly, the game is shut down automatically when the ship is destroyed, and your score is not remembered.
Simple graphics and sound effects
The game’s visual design gives it a retro feel, and it certainly reminds us of the classic arcade Space Shooters from times gone by.
The sound effects are not very spectacular, but you can lay down a pretty sick beat by timing your shots well. Space Shooter is not a particularly impressive game, at least by modern standards, but it can bring you back to the days of the old arcade shooters that many of us grew up with.
