Description

Puzzle platformers are designed to be challenging in multiple ways, which is why they can be pretty difficult to develop. The platforming itself has to be approachable but difficult, while the puzzles have to put your mind to work but not be too time-consuming. Obviously, it’s also a good idea to include a nice story with the deal, although that can be overlooked if the gameplay is enjoyable enough.

Explore a steampunk world and overcome its dangers

My Name Is Metall is a simple puzzle-platformer in which you have to defeat robots and sneak around them in order to avoid being detected. The goal is to make it to the end of each level and press various buttons in order to open the exit door, which requires you to move objects around or even use the bodies of your enemies, which is a pretty neat idea.
As mentioned before, stealth is an important part of the gameplay, because the enemy robots have the ability to spot you from far away and kill you with one shot. Hence, you have to sneak behind them when they are not looking, given the fact that you lack any sort of ranged weapon to pick them off from a distance.

Basic graphics and tough difficulty level

It’s worth mentioning that you may have a tough time in the beginning, mainly because it takes a while to get used to the mechanics and the fact that you are instantly killed if you enter the enemy’s field of vision. The actual platforming is not that difficult, on the other hand, and the puzzles mostly require you to use the fallen robot bodies in order to press down buttons and open doors.
Lastly, the graphics could use a bit more work too, especially when it comes to level design, because many of the levels appear to look exactly the same. In addition, sometimes it’s difficult to see the buttons you have to activate, not to mention the fact that most of the enemies look the same as well. It doesn’t take long for this to become boring, but then again you can distract yourself with the action.

Rough mechanics in need of some polish

All things considered, My Name Is Metall has some neat ideas to work with, but they need to be refined in order for the overall experience to be enjoyable. At the moment, the lazy level design and annoying difficulty curve can make most people quit from the first few stages.
