Description
It’s becoming almost certain that the Slenderman series of games will never die out. Plenty of people are creating or recreating their own versions of the game and some of them manage to add a bit more to the creepiness that is Slender. Slender Behind Darkness is one of those fan-made releases that actually bumps up the horror in a few ways.
The same sinister setup and stalker
In terms of gameplay, Slender Behind Darkness is close to identical to the original. You start the game in a very dark forest that’s slightly lit up by a full moon which actually doesn't make things at all relaxing, it’s not werewolves you’re looking out for.
You have a flashlight to shed some light on what’s around you and that’s it. Not gun, no super sprint no map to guide you. The eight pages you have to collect are scattered within the isolated patch of forest you find yourself in and are placed on rocks, buildings and so on.
What Slender Behind Darkness adds and is of great effect is the presence of wild animal sounds that never stop and seem to follow you around, an effect that does actually add up to the tension.
A good looking game but far from perfect
Slender Behind Darkness looks good when compared to other versions. The forest has its areas with low or high densities of trees, different buildings can be found and some trees are created to look extra creepy.
The only issue you might find to be really annoying is that some trees seem to light up like a Christmas tree when the beam from the flashlight comes slightly in contact with them. Other than that, you will notice that springing (if you can call it that) won't deplete you of stamina.
A very decent Slenderman reenactment
On a closing note, Slender Behind Darkness is a pretty good horror game that places you once more in Slenderman’s world. Hopefully you won’t come face to face with the faceless apparition.
